Welcome to the Honky Tonk

Mar 29, 2023

*We are deeply saddened by the recent tragic events in Nashville and are holding this precious town in our hearts.

This month Rockton went bottoms up in Nashville for our semi-annual company retreat.  This time around we were welcoming a few new team members to the Rockton family and Music City was the perfect venue to play together and make some sweet memories.

Cue the Country Songs and Disco Lights

Never has a city been more aptly named than Nashville earning the moniker of Music City.  From the moment you step off of your plane you hear live music as you walk to your baggage claim.  Our team is a bunch of music lovers so we didn’t waste any time enjoying all the talent that is overflowing from every nook and cranny of this city.  We explored the many venues along Broadway and Printers Alley. Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar being a stand out favorite.

We enjoyed a truly extraordinary experience at The Listening Room Cafe.  They host some of the biggest singer-songwriters in the world in an intimate atmosphere where the focus is solely on song making.  Our evening was spent diving into the musical stylings of Brandy Neelly, Kaylin Roberson, Willie Shaw, and Lindsay James.

All of this musical inspiration lead us to a very unique opportunity to create and record a song of our own!  We headed over to OmniSound Studios (because any studio that is good enough for Beyonce is good enough for Rockton!) to get started.  Rusty Tabor lead us through the process of how to write our own hit single. Hear it here first, folks:

After a long afternoon of music writing it was time to kick back, relax, and celebrate Mark Rockwell’s Birthday! We headed down to Pins Mechanical for some duckpin bowling and classic arcade game shenanigans.  Happy Birthday, Mark!

Looking Pretty in Music City

Have we mentioned that Rockton’s unofficial motto is Work Hard, Play Hard? After a long night of livin’ the Nashville life it was back to work at 8am each day.  Luckily, some days work means a group photoshoot! Our team was long overdue for some group photos so we met up with the ladies of PhotoWalk Nashville to do a walking photo tour of the trendy Gulch neighborhood.  We got an insider view of what it is like to live in Nashville all while taking photos at some of the city’s most iconic hot spots.

Hot Chicken and Whiskey

You can’t talk about a trip to Nashville without highlighting all of the delicious local cuisine. Nashville is known for it’s Hot Chicken and whiskey and boy did they not disappoint with their down south comfort food.  We had a fantastic meal at the ACME Feed & Seed located in the heart of of the Broadway district, where we were able to join in for trivia night and listen to some great live music.  Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint is one of the best BBQ spots in Nashville and we were lucky enough to have one right next to our hotel.  Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is renowned nationally for its authentic Nashville hot chicken and it was arguably some of the best hot chicken our team has ever had.  Hattie B’s, if you are listening, Denver will welcome you with open arms if you open a location here!

You either love Nashville, or you’re wrong.

It was a whirlwind week and it is hard to believe how much we packed into 5 short days! A number of our team members had never been to Nashville before and weren’t sure what to expect. By the end we all had developed a soft spot in our hearts for this gem of a city.  Until next time, y’all!
