Last week the entire Rockton Software team packed their bags and retreated to find sunshine south of the border in Cancun, Mexico. And boy did we find the sunshine!
We know what you’re thinking…that doesn’t sound like much of a work trip. I can assure you, in true Rockton fashion, we worked hard, but also played hard.
We called the beautiful Hotel El Dorado Royale home for the week. Our team met each day (in a conference room without windows, now that was tough in paradise) discussing company updates, future endeavors, watching sneak peak demos of new developments, chatting about industry strategies and trends, and most importantly celebrating accomplishments.
For a team that works in various locations spanning the U.S., spending time together for these meaningful face to face conversations is priceless. The product of these exchanges will continue to propel Rockton through 2018 and beyond, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come!
That’s enough about business, what about the ‘play hard’ part of the motto?
The Rockton crew, many joined by their significant others, took to the pools, the restaurants, and the beach to relax and recharge. With a small army of floaties and what seemed like constant laughter, our team was not hard to miss.
Just as prominent were the resort iguanas. These were not small cute lizards (although there were plenty of those too). I’m talking about large reptiles! It was important to watch your step as they often blended in with the cement walkways. Several members of our crew experienced close encounters with these behemoths, but I’m happy to report all toes and feet are accounted for.
In the evenings, our team split into smaller groups to enjoy intimate dinners, rather than one big group meal. This gave everyone a chance to catch up on a more personal level. This is the first time we’ve tried this divide and conquer method for meals, and it was an absolute blast and we highly recommend it!
After meals, there was usually a nightly show put on by the resort. From fire dancers to a Michael Jackson impersonator, they had it all! One night was reserved for a karaoke-style contest called Dorado Idol. Four members of our Rockton group took to the stage to flex their golden pipes. Technical Sales Team Lead, Alicia Weigel, even made to the finals with a moving rendition of Martina McBride’s Broken Wing. If you haven’t heard this gal sing, you need to! Keep an eye out at future events, she usually shows up at a nearby karaoke bar.
All in all, our time in Cancun was amazing! One word that kept floating around was family. The retreat only further reinforced that we are just one big happy Rockton family! We are so fortunate to be a part of this amazing team that works incredibly hard and genuinely enjoys each other’s company. And equally as fortunate that everyone agrees retreats should take place in warm tropical locations.
Hasta Luego!
